Rolex 6238 Black dial
The Rolex ref. 6238 is not for everyone, which is precisely why it appeals to me, the watch being known as the ‘Pre-Daytona’.
The ref. 6238, introduced in the early 1960s and produced until 1967, was made in steel, 14kt gold and 18kt gold. A total of 3590 were produced in steel, 225 in 14kt gold and 150 in 18kt gold.
Despite the few years of production, I counted up to 14 dial variants dedicated to this reference where the black dials stand out in the Gilt (polished) and Matt (matt) versions.
It is the last Rolex chrono with the tachymeter scale printed on the dial: the models that followed (Daytona) will have the scale engraved on the bezel.
At the top of the collectors’ wish list is the watch 6238 in steel with a black dial.
It is a true connoisseur’s watch, for a collector who appreciates beauty, rarity and purity. I love the good design and purity of the Pre-Daytona.
This makes it, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful watches ever made by Rolex.
The integrated tachymeter on the dial and the clean, polished bezel give the watch an elegance combined with sportiness that is unparalleled.
This is why I like the Pre-Daytona 6238 in general. It is a rare watch. And forgive me if I’m a bit arrogant or elitist: I like rare things.
