A rare Longines Admiral Super Compressor 2331-1.
Longines had the foresight to engrave the serial number on their calibres from the very first watch produced under that brand (1867), this allows us to date their watches with some accuracy.
Until 1969, the figure engraved on the caliber, was as high as 15 million. From February 10, 1970 Longines decided to renumber starting at 50 million. With a numbering of 51859718 engraved on caliber 6651, this watch dates back to 1972.
The Longines Admiral 2331-1 has a 40 mm case, a beautiful lacquered British green dial, and an inner rotating bezel. At first glance, it is distinguished by its two crowns and inner rotating bezel. Invented by LONGINES, the position of the bezel inside the case protects it from accidental manipulation and shock that could alter its settings.
This watch mounts a beautiful Longines branded bracelet manufactured by Gay Frères.
Characterized by the logo inside the deployant, with the initials G and F and, between them, a chamois head, Gay Frères bracelets made a name for themselves as early as the early 1930s for their comfort, sturdiness, and stretchability. Another important feature of Gay Frères bracelets is creativity of design. Throughout the last century, the company created products that always captured the spirit and fashion of the time. This bracelet mounts a diver clasp with diver extension.
The bold case design and colorful dial let you know it is a child of the 1970s!
After more than fifty years, finding a watch in unused condition adds rarity to rarity.
